Jurgen Klopp delivers latest injury update on Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah

Jurgen Klopp explained that Liverpool will continue to assess the fitness of Mohamed Salah ahead of the Merseyside derby with Everton on Saturday.

The Egyptian winger was forced off the pitch seven minutes into the second half with a suspected groin injury during Wednesday night’s Champions League victory over Manchester City.

Klopp says the club’s medical department have been trying ‘everything’ to facilitate the No. 11’s fitness ahead of the trip to Goodison Park and next week’s return leg against City.

“I don’t think it makes sense to talk here about what we do with the boys in rehab. But, of course, you can imagine we have tried everything to make him available,” said Klopp at his pre-match press conference.

“[There are] still 24 hours to go pretty much, or 23 hours to go until we start. So let’s see what happens.”

The manager continued: “I cannot make Mo available because it’s the derby, I would never do it. It’s not possible. I don’t think any of our supporters want us to do that.

“If he is a doubt, he will not be involved. That’s how it is with all of them; if they are not 100 per cent fit they cannot be involved. I would not rest a player with absolutely nothing, with no problem.

“That’s our situation. We are used to playing every three days, that’s not the problem. It’s nothing to do with Mo or any other player – it would always be the same decision.

“If you are available you are involved; if you are not available you’re not involved.”
