Liverpool earned a late point against Manchester United on Sunday as substitute Adam Lallana netted late on for the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp’s side, who were without talisman Mohamed Salah, looked disjointed for much of the game, falling behind in the first half from Marcus Rashford’s opener.

The goal was a controversial one, with replays showing Victor Lindelof had fouled Divock Origi in the build-up. However, VAR stuck with referee Martin Atkinson’s decision, much to the anger of manager Klopp.

That anger was compounded just minutes later as Sadio Mane’s equaliser was ruled out by VAR, with the ball having hit Mane’s hand as he controlled it at the edge of the Man United box.

It was a game with few chances, with Liverpool looking uncharacteristically timid in their intensity.

Klopp brought on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana and Naby Keita as he looked to change the game late on. It did the trick as Lallana netted the Reds’ equaliser with five minutes to go.

Andy Robertson’s cross eluded everyone at the near post, with the ball making its way to the far post for an unmarked Lallana to prod home with ease.

The result means Liverpool’s seventeen game winning run in the Premier League comes to an end, although they still maintain a six-point lead over second-placed Manchester City.

The Reds are back in action on Wednesday as they take on Genk in the Champions League before hosting an out-of-sorts Tottenham at Anfield next Sunday.
