What changed and why it matters

While seven new players in a starting XI is a large number, these changes were somewhat expected thanks to Andoni Iraola’s comments in his pre-match press conference. The boss is obviously trying to find a balance between putting together a competitive side for the Carabao Cup and saving players for a massive stretch coming up in the EPL. These moves give young players a chance to show off their talant vs. a fellow EPL side and if they do well, it will give Iraola confidence to give them minutes in other competitions

LFC Globe Verdict

I like this lineup. While it’s mostly young players, there are just enough veterans to show that Andoni Iraola is serious about pushing for a win and advancing to the next round. I just hope it does not impact the veteran players’ availability vs. Arsenal on the weekend.
