Liverpool football club opened their 2022/23 Premier League season with a 2-2 draw against Fulham in London early Saturday afternoon. The Reds have to be disappointed with the result but it was a very entertaining match.
Darwin Núñez scored his first Premier League goal for the Reds after being subbed on in the 51st minute. Mohamed Salah also cashed in for Liverpool in the second half. Unfortunately, they were playing from behind early in the match.
Credit to Fulham for giving Liverpool all they could handle. Their star man, Aleksander Mitrović lived up to his hype by scoring both of their goals. His first came via a header in the 32nd minute. The second on a conversion from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute.
Núñez's goal was a cheeky backheel chip that he put past the Fulham keeper in the 64th minute. Mo Salah set him up with a nice delivery from the right side of the box. Núñez would return the favor in the 80th minute, dropping a sublime back pass onto Salah's foot that the Egyptian King instinctively finished.
This match was action-packed from the first whistle to the last. Goal posts were struck by both teams, most notably by Jordan Henderson in the dying minutes that would have gotten the Reds all three points.
LFC Globe Verdict
Liverpool have a lot of work to do before next Monday's match against Crystal Palace at Anfield. I think Jürgen Klopp needs to shuffle the starting lineup. Starting with Darwin Núñez as a starter. He's earned his opportunity to be a 90-minute man in a short period of time.
The overall Man of the Match was Mitrović but, we have to say that Darwin Núñez was Liverpool's MOTM. You can decide for yourself by checking out these highlights.
