A heavily changed side saw most of the big guns return from that loss on Monday night, with Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino amongst nine changes.

In a game that was lacking much action, Salah earned a penalty in the 50th minute after being brought down by Pascal Gross.

The Egyptian converted the resulting spot-kick as Liverpool barely got out of second gear for the rest of the second-half as they cruised to a 1-0 win.

Jurgen Klopp's side are now seven points ahead at the summit of the Premier League, with Tottenham facing Man United on Sunday and Man City not in action until Monday night.

The Reds boss will now hope that his side can re-build their momentum from December, with home games against Crystal Palace and Leicester to finish the month.
