Confirmed Liverpool Lineup vs Marseille: Mohamed Salah STARTS; Gomez Replaces Konaté

Mohamed Salah featured in the Liverpool squad for the Champions League match against Marseille.

Mohamed Salah gets a surprise inclusion in the Starting XI. Arne Slot hinted that he might get extended minutes in his press conference to finish off chances. Elsewhere, Joe Gomez starts in defense for Ibrahima Konate who is away from the club dealing with a personal matter (See other injuries here) and Alexis MacAllister gets the nod over Curtis Jones in the midfield.

Marseille Confirmed Lineup

Rulli, Pavard, Balerdi, Medina, Murillo, Weah, Hojbjerg, Kondogbia, Greenwood, Traore, Gouri

Liverpool Confirmed Starting XI

Starters:  Alisson, Gomez, Van Dijk, Kerkez, Wirtz, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Salah, Ekitike, Frimpong, Gravenberch.

Subs: Mamardashvili, Woodman, Endo, Chiesa, Jones, Gakpo, Robertson, Nyoni, Ngumoha.

Starting XI:

  • GK: Alisson Becker
  • RB: Jeremie Frimpong
  • CB: Joe Gomez (Replaces Konaté)
  • CB: Virgil van Dijk (C)
  • LB: Milos Kerkez
  • CM: Alexis Mac Allister (Replaces Curtis Jones)
  • CM: Ryan Gravenberch
  • RW: Mohamed Salah (Returns from AFCON)
  • AM: Dominik Szoboszlai
  • LW: Florian Wirtz
  • ST: Hugo Ekitiké

The Verdict

I did not expect Salah to get the start and ease back in after being away from the club at AFCON, so him getting the start shows just how much these three points mean to the Reds. With other results, Liverpool have already qualified for the next round of the competition, but now with two wins, Liverpool will advance straight to the Round of 16
