Who has been Jürgen Klopp’s best signing?

13th April 2023

Transfer business under at Liverpool has been outstanding, to say the least.

Under his stewardship going on eight years at the club, Klopp has brought in several players that will be classed as legends when their time at Liverpool is done.

Many of these players have contributed to the massive successes Liverpool have achieved over the last five years which includes a trophy and a UEFA title.

It's a difficult question to pin down one particular player that has been the best under Klopp but in my opinion, it comes down to two players – and .

Mohamed Salah

Affectionately known as ‘The Egyptian King', Mohamed Salah is a bona fide Liverpool legend.

Arriving at the club in 2017, Salah is close to finishing his sixth season at Liverpool and has already shattered numerous records, cementing his place among the greats at the Merseyside club.

The winger's influence was immediately felt after achieving a record-breaking season in his first season at the club, netting 32 goals in the league, a record that still stands to this day and scoring 44 goals in all competitions as Liverpool reached their first Champions League final since 2007.

His goals then led to trophies, winning six with Liverpool and a whole host of individual honours, including two PFA Players' Player of the Year , three Premier League Golden Boots and many more.

At 30 years old, Salah remains in the prime of his career and despite the decline Liverpool have had during this season (/23), the Egyptian King will no doubt be pushing to the biggest trophies yet again.

Arriving six months after Salah, Virgil van Dijk had a similar impact on the Liverpool team after Liverpool spent a then-world-record transfer fee for a defender (£75 million).

The Dutch immediately brought calm and solidity to a previously lackadaisical Liverpool defence that shipped goals regularly.

The centre-half helped the club reach consecutive Champions League finals, winning the latter in 2019 and in his first full season at the club, he was named PFA Players' Player of the Year and the Premier League Player of the Season.

Despite playing half of the season in his first year and missing almost the entirety of the 2020/21 season, after suffering an ACL injury, van Dijk has routinely been named the best defender in the world and arguably the greatest defender in Premier League history.

There are no winners or losers in this argument, both men have contributed a massive amount to Liverpool and remain important figures as the former Premier League winners aim to achieve greatness once again.

Could Liverpool return to the top of the table should they properly back Klopp this summer in the transfer market?
