Van Dijk remains unfazed by Man City's start to the Premier League

says Liverpool remain focused on their own performances rather than worrying about 's progress in the title race.

Pep Guardiola's side are two points ahead of the Reds in the table, having dropped points just twice so far this season.

Despite the Reds enjoying their joint best ever start to the league campaign, City have looked a class above and have a goal difference of 31, eighteen higher than Liverpool.

Should the Reds the title this season, they would require other teams in the league to give them a helping hand.

However, Van Dijk insists they are focused on their own results, rather than losing sleep over the league leaders.

“They are the champions and the best team in the league but we will try everything to be as good as we can,” he said.

“We don't have to look at others, we want to look at the games we have and the next challenge we have at Liverpool is , which is going to be tough.

“The season is very long. [City] are not going to win every game 5-0 and are going to have tough games like everyone else.

“We need to look at what we have ahead of us and that is more important than looking at someone else. It is the only way forward.”

Liverpool returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Sunday, with a 2-0 win over at .

and were both on target either side of half-time and Van Dijk believes Shaqiri's contributions are important to the Reds doing well so far.

“He's been playing well. He is working hard like everyone else and when he gets his chance he is doing well,” he added.

“He scored but he's been pretty important the last couple of games he's been involved, which is good for all of us.

“Shaqiri is a guy with different qualities and—with his left foot—he is always dangerous.”
