The ball hit Toby Alderweireld and rolled in to the back of the net, with all the emotions in the ground erupting at the final whistle.
The result sees Liverpool go back above City in the table, albeit having played a game more, sitting on 79 points after 32 games – an all-time club record.
Liverpool are next in league action against Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium on Friday night, whilst Pep Guardiola’s side face Cardiff City on Wednesday.
