No Easy Task: Liverpool Travel To London To Take On Spurs

Liverpool will make the trip to West London to take on Tottenham Hotspur at New Whiteheart Lane today, on September 30th. Liverpool have garnered a result in 17 straight competitive matches, but coming with vs. the Spurs will be no easy task.

Scouting The Spurs

Like Liverpool, Tottenham have gotten off to a tremendous start this season. They sit 4th on the EPL Table with 14 points and a + 8 goal differential, under manager Ange Postecoglou. Heung Min Son leads the team with 5 goals while James Madison is one of three players with two goals each. Jürgen Klopp is certainly impressed with Tottenham's play so far this season.

“Tottenham is not in European football at all... Chelsea is not in European football... so two heavyweights [are] not in European football, and having the whole week to train when others travel, and stuff like this, not only us, all the others, so it's a massive advantage, so getting into the Champions League will be a massive and a difficult task this year because of well-rested big animals,” Klopp said.”Tottenham is doing really well. They were desperate for more offensive football and he (Postecoglou) has brought them that in a year when has left. They are a really well-set-up team. Exciting to watch.”

A Mutual Respect

Postecoglou grew up a Liverpool supporter in Australia and while he is impressed by what Klopp has done with the Reds, he will not be in awe when coaching against his boyhood team.

“Jürgen is an outstanding manager. He is one of these managers I think it's fair to say has made an impact on the competition, not just his club, because when he came in with the way Liverpool went about things,” Postecoglou said. “I think he challenged quite a few of the conventions about the Premier League and sort of introduced a new style of play that others have followed now.  Like any kid, I had the posters up on the wall. Liverpool was my team, but you grow up, things change. I used to love Happy Days. But I don't have posters of The Fonz on my wall now. That's how it goes.”

Injury Update

Trent Alexander-Arnold will likely return to the team sheet for this match. Stefan Bacetic has a minor calf issue, but it is not known whether the injury will hold him out of action. For Tottenham, both Son and Madison are being evaluated for possible injuries. If neither can play, that would be a huge blow to the Spurs' attacking threat and give Liverpool an advantage in the match.

LFC Globe Verdict

As Klopp said, this should be an exciting match. Both clubs are off to undefeated starts in play and have similar stats, 15 goals each through 6 matches. Both matches were close last year a 2-1 away victory and a 4-3 Liverpool win,  so I expect no different this season.

Liverpool comes out on top with a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
