Emre Can told to make decision on future 'within the next week'

According to reports in Italy, Juventus have grown frustrated in their pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Emre Can. The Turin club have told the German midfielder to make a decision on his future within the next seven days.

Gazzetta dello Sport report that Juventus have given Can a seven-day deadline to agree to a move to the Italian champions.

They have previously spoken to Can’s representative, Reza Fazeli, who reportedly gave his word that Can wouldn’t commit to anyone before talking to Juve. However, the Juve hierarchy are growing impatient with his deliberation over the move and according to reports, will try to force his hand.

Juventus chiefs Beppe Marotta and Fabio Paratici are believed to want a face-to-face meeting, to get a deal agreed in principal in the next week.

They are prepared to hand the ex-Bayern Leverkusen midfielder a five-year contract worth £8.8million annually - plus bonuses - until 2023. However, if his representatives attempt to stall on the bumper deal, Juventus will turn their attention elsewhere.

The 24-year-old has been first choice for Jurgen Klopp this season, but continues to hold out on a new deal at Anfield. Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have also been recently linked with Can, who is understood to want a release clause inserted in to any new contract at Liverpool.

Earlier in January, Marotta told Italian broadcaster Premium Sport: “The interest is clear. We want to try and bring him [Emre Can] to us, but we cannot do it because he currently has a contract with Liverpool.

“He could renew it and, moreover, there are other teams interested in him.

“We want to try and bring him to Turin. I am stating this with full awareness that he might not arrive, but we need to have important objectives.”

The Serie A side have been linked with Can since the summer, but have so far failed to convince the midfielder to agree to a contract.

“I haven’t signed anything (with Juventus) or anyone. I am talking with everyone," said Can on the rumours back in January.

“Of course I am talking with Liverpool. I still have a contract here. It is an amazing club. What can I say? My agent does the rest.”

Gazzetta dello Sport add should Can withdraw his interest, Juventus could turn their attention to Schalke's Max Meyer, who is available on a free transfer this summer and has been monitored by the Reds in the past.

The Bianconeri are known to be prudent and keen on signing players for nothing, with Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba, Sami Khedira and Kingsley Coman all signed in the recent past on free transfers.
