However, should they improve their squad, their expectations regarding the 2023/24 season rise almost instantaneously.
Premier League Title Win
While Liverpool ended the season with an 11-match unbeaten streak, by all intents and purposes, it was a dismal year that ended with no trophies and a fifth-placed finish, guaranteeing their omission from the Champions League for the first time since 2017.
For most, the 2022/23 season was a blip and Liverpool would resume back to normal the upcoming season - but with considerable transfer arrivals and departures.
The forward line of the club has always been impressive while the defence may be the weakest section of the team but still houses the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
While a title challenge will already be considered an improvement on last season, winning the title, which would be their first since the 2019/20 season, would spell the beginning of Jürgen Klopp's second era at the club.
Having gone unbeaten in their first three games this season, Liverpool have navigated two tough away trips against Chelsea and Newcastle, winning the latter 2-1 thanks to a Darwin Núñez brace, which certainly bodes well for the rest of the season.
Top Four And A Trophy
Due to Liverpool's inclusion in the Europa League this season, the competition is a great opportunity for the club to secure silverware as they'll most likely be the best team in the tournament.
The race for the top four will be a difficult one due to improvements made by Chelsea and Tottenham while up-and-coming teams such as Aston Villa and West Ham have made admirable starts to the season but Liverpool should surely finish comfortably in the top four.
Silverware usually spells a good season for a club but with the amount of world-class talent Liverpool have, that may not be enough.
