Jörg Schmadtke Named LFC Sporting Director

In what is sure to be an eventful offseason for Liverpool, the club announced on May 30th that Jörg Schmadtke has been named Sporting Director. Schmadtke joins the Reds after spending the past 4 seasons with German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.

Schmadtke will assume his duties with the club on June 1st for the departing Julian Ward who has been with the Reds since 2012.

“I would like to welcome Jörg to Liverpool Football Club in the knowledge that he will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience into a role in which such qualities can only be beneficial both to him and us,” Fenway Sports Group President Mike Gordon said. “Jörg will work with our football operations department as it continues to provide support for Jürgen Klopp, in keeping with our ongoing endeavour to keep growing and developing the club in all areas.”
