After poor play to start the match that saw Liverpool go down 2-0 inside half an hour, the Reds recovered with four unanswered goals, including two from Alexis Mac Allister in a 4-3 win over Villarreal in UCL action.
Rio Ngumoha was also a terror on the pitch as he was a spark all match long.

Ngumoha.
Most people will say it’s MacAllister, but Ngumoha had the most complete game and forced Villarreal to dedicate multiple defenders to him at all times. This opened avenues for others to score, including Mac Allister.
Liverpool player ratings
- Alisson (6/10): Nice stop in the first half to keep the deficit at 2-1
- Van Dijk (3/10): Really a struggle day for the captain
- Jacquet (6/10): Pretty solid defense, but let a couple balls in behind him
- Mac Allister (8/10) struggled in the midfield early on, but his goal woke up the whole team.
- Gakpo (7/10): As with a lot of the team, really strong in the second half as the Reds were ruthless in the attack
- Tsimikas (7/10): His corners set up both first-half goals
- Araújo (6/10): Good goal at the end of the first half
- Gravenberch (7/10): Reds’ best defender on the day
- Nyoni (5/10): Settled in as the match progressed, but was beaten often in the first half
- Koumas (5/10): Expected a bit more from him coming off of two strong games
- Ngumoha (9/10) Best player on the pitch. Took 3 players to slow him down
Substitutes
- Wirtz (7/10): Really strong off the bench to create chances and draw fouls, before his goal
- Isak (4/10): Was playing on the right side in place of Ngumoha instead of up top
- Barcola (5/10): Came on just after Liverpool had grabbed a 4-2 lead and did not need to push forward as much.
- Gomez (6/10): Important tackle as Villarreal was making a late push
- McConnell (5/10) Good to see the lad get some experience on a European night.
The manager
Andoni Iraola (6/10): Solid decisions from the boss, but I would have subbed off Van Dijk at halftime
LFC Globe Verdict
A nice win for the Reds, particularly being down 2-0. You will take 3 points in the UCL all day long, but giving up 6 goals combined in the last two matches of the competition is concerning.
