Following a 4-2 win over Sunderland to open the preseason, Liverpool continue their USA tour vs. Wrexham on July 30th (12:30 AM BST) at historic Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. This match will also have a splash of Hollywood as cameras are expected to be on hand to film a portion of the documentary “Welcome To Wrexham,” which chronicles the Red Dragons' rise from non-league football to the Championship.
Reinforcements Arrive
Ryan Gravenberch, Virgil van Dijk, Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Cody Gakpo have joined the club in New York and are available for Andoni Iraola to select. It will be interesting to see how the boss incorporates these household names while still trying to get the younger players up to speed before the season starts.
Welcome To Wrexham
Wrexham is one of the most interesting stories in World Football. They are a Welsh club that plays in the English pyramid. Until last season, the Red Dragons had won triple promotion to the Championship and were in a promotion battle to the EPL until the final week of the season. Last season, the Red Dragons were led by strikers Kieffer Moore and Josh Windass, who scored a combined 30 goals.
LFC Globe Verdict
I’m a fan of the “Welcome to Wrexham” TV show, but tonight, the Red Dragons are playing with the big boys. Liverpool have more of their players back, so I expect this match to resemble more of what Iraola will put out on the pitch to start the season. I will be interested to see how both teams adjust to playing a football match on a baseball field, so it should be a fun night. Grab a cup of coffee to stay awake and Up The Reds!!
