Arne Slot met with the media after Liverpool’s 1-0 loss to Galatasaray in the Champions League Round of 16 match in Türkiye. The boss discussed the similarities between this game and the one back on Matchday 2 of the League Phase. He also discussed Liverpool’s struggles in the match, but added that they can play better at Anfield.
Deja Vu
Slot admitted that he had a strong sense of deja vu after the match.
"We had multiple chances to score. After 10-15 minutes, you expect us to lead and then their first attack leads to a set-piece goal. Last time it was a penalty. And another disallowed goal from us, so a lot of similarities."
Slot Admits Struggles
Anyone who watched the game saw that Liverpool struggled and Slot admitted as much, but he adds that Liverpool has a chance to turn things around at Anfield.
“You play two games against each other and now it's half-time, they're 1-0 up. We can do better, I'm 100% sure about that. But even with the game we've just played, we had enough chances to score goals,” Slot said. "We didn't but next week we play at Anfield and our fans will be so supportive for us. I think that was the situation for Galatasaray today. They had great support from their fans, it was difficult for us to play in. Let's hope we can create the same atmosphere next week at Anfield."
LFC Globe Verdict
I hate to be hard on Slot… But, even though he is right that there were a lot of similarities between the two games, that’s not a good thing. Slot should have made adjustments to ensure a different result instead of the game playing out the same way.
I still think the Reds advance with a big win at Anfield, but now it's in doubt, and all the pressure is on the Reds.
