Match Preview: Reds Aim to Keep Building Momentum vs. Cottagers

Jacob -

The season will have nearly come full circle when Liverpool host Fulham at Anfield tomorrow, May 3rd. The Reds opened the EPL season with a draw at Craven Cottage, and now as the campaign enters its final month, Liverpool hopes to continue the sprint to the finish line with their fifth win in a row.

Not only have Liverpool won 4 games in a row, but the Reds are also unbeaten in their last six matches. Only Manchester City, who are currently top of the table, have a better record (6-0) during that stretch. Should Liverpool beat , a 5-match-winning streak would be the Reds' longest such run since November 20th through December 11th, 2021.

Don't Count Out The Cottagers

Fulham is back in the Premier League after spending last year as a Championship side. And it looks like they want to stay up with the big boys. The Cottagers sit 10th on the table, well clear of the relegation zone, which is quite respectable. They gave a stiff test last match before falling 2-1. Fulham are led by Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrović who has 12 goals on the year. He scored two of them in the first match with Liverpool, so the defence has to make sure he is well-marked at all times.

Jota Likely Out

Unfortunately for Liverpool, 's stoppage-time goal vs.Tottenham came at a high price as he aggravated an injury (bruised rib) suffered against .

“You might have seen the celebrations of Diogo, he was sitting down pretty slowly,” Jürgen Klopp said. “He didn't train since then so that is one that is a doubt… he is a doubt at least but I hope he can recover until tomorrow night.”

If Jota can not play, it would be a big blow to the Reds as he has scored five goals in the last 4 matches.

LFC Globe Verdict

This match may be a lot tougher than people think. Yes, Liverpool are playing well, but Fulham may just be the most pleasant surprise of the EPL this season. Just one year removed from relegation and the Cottagers sit mid-table. That's impressive. I expect Luis Diaz to fill in for Diogo Jota if he can not play and Diaz has played well of late. The biggest key is to slow down Aleksandar Mitrovic. If the Reds can do that, I think they come with a 2-1 .
