Brentford earned a pair of corners within five minutes, but both were cleared. Domonik Szoboszlai followed with a nice run down the centre of the pitch, but he put the shot high. Both teams were sharp in the midfield, but had trouble connecting with teammates in the final third. Brentford put a shot just wide in the 20th minute, and Bradley Barcola missed a golden opportunity on the counterattack.

Jeremie Jaquet came up with a big defensive stop near the half-hour mark as the Bees started to push for a goal. Domonik Szoboszlai then went off with an injury. Florian Wirtz drew contact later in the half, but the penalty shouts from the Reds went unanswered. Alexis MacAlister drew a penalty in the 41st minute, but it was overturned on VAR review. Lewis Potter got on the scoresheet in stoppage time to give the Bees a 1-0 at the beak.

LFC Globe Verdict

Bradley Barcola will be upset about those two missed chances, and the injury to Szoboszlai is concerning, as he may have come back too early. The Reds have plenty of opportunities to get back into the match after a red card on Brentford late in the half.
