The first half of the game was certainly a disappointing one for Liverpool with many fans stunned by the low-level performance the players put in but Klopp praised Wolves for making it difficult for his players.

“The first half was really bad, the second half was really good, [it was] a massive three points,” he said to TNT Sports.

Klopp also discussed the quality of his team and the overall squad as his substitutions made the difference in the game while he also praised who scored on his 200th appearance for the club.

“We have a really good squad. There is quality, no doubt about it. Even with quality, you can play really bad. That's what we saw in the first half.

“[Robertson] is an exceptional player for us. Top bloke, world-class left-sided defender, not every day but he shows it often.”

Poor First Half Performance

While Klopp was certainly worried about how dejected his side looked in the first 45 minutes, he admitted that he did take one positive from it and it was that they couldn't look any worse in the second half than they did from the first.

“The good thing about the first half it was that bad I thought we can't play a second half that bad. Low energy level. Macca [Mac Allister].

“Some others as well, they struggled.”

The German said that bringing on at half-time not only gave them more pace up front but it allowed the team to have better control of the game which was certainly evident.

“We changed one player at halftime, it gave us more speed up front,” Klopp added.

“Natural speed. We had control of the game better. We changed pretty much everything at halftime.”

Liverpool are next in action on Thursday as they take on at 17:35 (UK time) in their opening game as they take part in the competition for the first time since 2015.
