Origi was the unlikely hero for Jurgen Klopp's side at on Sunday, having found himself on the periphery of the squad in recent months.

He spent last year on at Bundesliga club Wolfsburg, before turning down a chance to move on loan in the summer.

The Belgian has had very few chances to make his mark on the Liverpool side this season, despite being a key player for the Reds in Klopp's first couple of years.

However, he was brought on alongside against Marco Silva's Everton as the Reds looked for a late goal to keep them close to leaders in the table.

Origi first hit the post from close-range after a knock-down, before then being alive to the situation when the Dutchman's looping effort was misjudged by Jordan Pickford.

“It's a special moment, I'm just enjoying the moment,” he told Sky Sports after the game.

“It's special for the club and the city, and I'm very happy for then.

“It's just instinct. The first chance I had I knew there would be balls like this, open balls.

“I just tried to be sharp, and in the end Virg gave me a nice assist!”

Origi's header was his first goal for the club since the 4-0 at West Ham in May 2017 and he insists he backs himself to help the side when called up on.

“I just believed in myself. It wasn't easy,” he added.

“I just try to enjoy the game, whenever I come in I try to help the team, and I'm happy I could do it in this way today.”

With enduring a slow start to the season so far, it will be interesting to see how much game-time Origi gets over the upcoming festive period.
