The Reds ran riot in the opening 45 minutes of the new season as they looked to be in the mood from the off.

A fortunate Grant Hanley own-goal gave them the lead inside the opening ten minutes, followed by a fine finish by Mohamed Salah to double the advantage.

A straight-forward header by Virgil van Dijk from Salah's corner made it three before Divock Origi nodded home from Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross for four.

Norwich pulled one back after the hour mark as Teemu Pukki slotted home with a low effort past goalkeeper Adrian, who came on for the injured Alisson in the first-half, however it remained just a mere consolation for the visitors.
